The NFL Violates Children

I haven’t said much over the years as the NFL has been bowing at the alter of political correctness. In recent years they have become known as the “No Fun League” as they systematically altered the game with ridiculous rules such as those banning silly end zone dances many of us have come to love.

I am not going to remain aloof regarding the glaring hypocrisy of the NFL. They claim to have made this ridiculous ban on end zone celebrations because it is supposedly a bad example for the children – yet they have no compunction about violating these children with lewd, violent and explicit commercials that run on almost every commercial break.

I absolutely love football. Football is almost the only thing I watch on TV (besides Fox News). With fondness I remember my childhood days of watching football with my father and my brother. Back then, the NFL and sponsors apparently had at least a modicum of respect for its viewers and their families and my father didn’t have to be embarrassed to have it on. That is the way it is supposed to be.

This Super Bowl was the last straw. It was full of inappropriate material from godaddy.com’s pseudo-lesbian commercials featuring Danica Patrick where at the end of every commercial a women rips open her shirt and flaunts her breasts as they tell us the “too hot for TV” version can be seen at their site. During other games they have Danica taking a shower with another woman. For some reason, almost every commercial featured people slapping people upside the head. In another commercial they have people running around their office in their underwear. That was tame compared to some commercials but I didn’t appreciate having to –explain- that to my 6 year old son (as he asked me why those people are naked) simply because I couldn’t make it to the remote control to change the channel in time. I didn’t really want my 6 year old son to see that video game they advertised with what appeared by her attire to be a prostitute being cast into hell with the tagline “Hell awaits You”. Nor do I appreciate having to sit there with my 6 year old having to answer questions about “erectile dysfunction” as they bombard us with this nonsense. The WORST of all are actually the –promos- for the shows that CBS, Fox and NBC promote during these games.

For example, every week CBS finds the most sexually explicit scene they have for their show “Two and a Half Men” and make certain it makes its way into the promo. If you, like I, do not watch the show, Two and a Half Men is the show staring the pitiful fraction of a wife beating man - Charlie Sheen. Yes, there is no outrage about CBS making this predator the highest paid sit-com star on TV because he and his daddy are staunch advocates of abortion. That’s your get out of jail free card with the “feminists” and the left.

Many will read this and say that my grievance should be with the NETWORKS – and not the NFL. That is a misunderstanding that I will clear up before anyone need raise it. If – the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell really cared about the innocence of our children and respected those viewers who want to maintain family values, they would PROTECT their product by placing stipulations upon networks every season that would be codified within their contracts. Those stipulations could prevent networks from visually and audibly molesting our children.

I am not naïve about this. The networks are what they are. They have for decades made no apologies for pushing the limits of decency and dumping their sewage into our culture. I do not blame a jackal for being a jackal or a vulture for being a vulture. I know what they are and adjust accordingly.

The NFL on the other hand clearly TARGETS CHILDREN with their “Play 60” campaign and their cute little “Punt pass and Kick contests” featuring children from leagues around the country. As far as I’m concerned, the NFL is like the predator that drives up to innocent children, dangling candy before their eyes as they coax the child to come on board. They entice them in there with their product, the rest is the child’s problem.

It is all about money. The NFL is now more concerned with trying to sue small companies over the phrase “Who Dat” and the rights to the "Fleur-De-Lis” - a symbol going back to the court of Louis XIV.

God forbid your child see Chad Ochocinco celebrate a touchdown in the end-zone or put on a mock Hall of Fame jacket on the sidelines. God forbid that Rush Limbaugh be a limited partner in an NFL team.
